The Valley is the second climbing centre to be opened by Climb Newcastle. Building on the success of the Climb Newcastle original bouldering centre in the old Byker swimming pool. The Valley is on the edge of the Ouseburn Valley, in the East of the city.
Climb Newcastle is the brainchild of former british and world climbing champion Andy Earl, and well-known local climbers Chris Graham and Darren Stevenson. Their passion for climbing and bouldering will help to deliver another world-class bouldering centre.
Christmas and New Year Opening times: we're open every day except Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
We have hot showers and coffee to finish off your pre-work climb!
The Valley is the large warehouse on Byker Bank, near the Foundry Lane junction into the centre of Ouseburn. Our front door is on Quality Row.
From the Morrisons Byker roundabout: Turn onto Byker Bank and go downhill. The centre entrance is on the left, before reaching the traffic lights at the bottom of the bank.
From the Quayside: Turn onto Byker Bank at the Hotel du Vin. The centre is the large warehouse, currently with 'To Let' signs on. The main entrance is on the far side, turn right after the traffic lights.
We have extensive indoor bicycle parking, with 'Sheffield-style' stands.
We are 10 minutes walk from Byker Metro station. Walk down Shields Road and then down Byker Bank.
Shields Road is very well served by bus routes across the region.
Byker is 3 Metro stops (change at Monument) from Newcastle Central Station for rail connections (~10 minutes + 10 minutes walk). We also recommend the Metro for travel via Newcastle Airport. Again change at monument to reach Byker (~30 minutes + 10 minutes walk).
Parking is available at the following locations. Please do not park on Byker Bank itself, which is a very busy main road. <1 minute walk.
Quality Row: In front of our main entrance. 1 minute walk.
Ford Street: At the South end of the building there is on street parking.
Ouseburn centre: At our busy times there is extensive parking in the centre of Ouseburn, for example the Foundry Lane car park. 2 minutes walk.
Byker centre: There is 2 hour parking in the centre of Byker, at the bottom of Shields Road. 2 minutes walk.
Other: There are several other roads with extensive parking in the area. Try, for example, Stephen Street.
The Pool: As a last resort, Climb Newcastle @ The Pool, Byker is 10 minutes walk away.
